So whats your usual bagel topping???
I either use butter (lowfat) or creamcheese. Occasionally I do peanut butter but that gets really messy.
How about you?

I picked "Plain - no topping", because I usually get the 'fancy' bagels.
You know, the "Everything" bagel or the jalapeno-cheddar bagel.
If it's a plain bagel, then my choice of 'toppings' is usually turkey, bacon, lettuce, cheese, and guacamole!"To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright

cream cheese and lox are both quite disgusting :P

Bagels taste like day-old bread, hard and chewy.

if that's the case, you're getting ripped off when you buy bagels!

Another vote for cream cheese. I also like sprinkling cinn. & sugar on after that. Yum.

Cream cheese.
But lately I have been going with peanut butter and cream cheese. It's really good.
Sometimes butter and jelly/jam/preservessnappy phrase

Cream cheese and lox if I got em. If not then toasted with butter. The only bagels I don't put anything on are the cinnamon and sugar ones.
Tip: Go to bagel shops 1 hr before closing. They usually sell the bagels for dirt cheap or even give them away since they can't keep them til the next day. And its not like you are getting bad bagels either, they are fresh out of the oven. -
I don't like sweet bagels or combinations thereof myself. If I want something sweet that looks like a bagel I'll just get myself some donuts.
My favorite combination is cream cheese, lox, red onion, tomato, salt/pepper, and a little fresh squeezed lemon sprinkled over it. I don't ever tire of that sandwich for breakfast or anytime of the day. And with my new place in the UP of Michigan I can get lox about as fresh as it comes right out of Lake Superior. But then I love salmon in almost any formFB-DIMM are the real cause of global warming -
I used to put cream cheese on bagels, and still do at times. However, I found something new. ROMANO CHEESE, BABY! Best with onion & garlic, plain, poppy seed, salted, or bagels that do not have fruity ingredients or cinnamon to conflict or overpower the flavor.
You don't need to butter the bagel, but if you want to, do it very lightly. Spinkle crumbled & dried romano cheese generously on each half. place halves in toaster oven. (doesn't work in a regular toaster because all the cheese falls off & microwaves make it soggy) Bake it on a medium toasting setting and watch for about 1-2 minutes until the cheese and bagel turn golden brown or bronzed color. Some thick steam may escape while baking, but your bagel is not burning. When done, let cool slightly and enjoy with coffee or Hot chocolate.
Slight thread-jack: Use small Mirenge cookies instead of whipped cream or marshmallow in Hot chocolate for a more enjoyable treat. (get good quality ones as some taste really bad and stay hard) -

yoda313 you are thinking of the lox flavored cream cheese, which is actually pretty good.

Not really a big bagel fan, but toasted sesame seed w/ dead fish flavored cream cheese ain't all that bad.
So... Once upon a time I arrived at a job early (that alone is almost the fairytale part of it) and as I waited for the people to let me into the job I decided that I would try out this little bagel shop across the street. I toted myself and my tools across the street and bought a bagel. It was a nice bagel. Six inches in diameter and chocolate chip, still warm from the oven. So now I got a problem, you see I had my hands full carrying my tools around and no place to put the bagel. Being the clever type, I just put the bagel in my mouth and started walking back to the job. The chocolate chips were making my mouth water. And by the time I got back across the street the starch in the bagel had glued to my lips!
Now any smoker knows what it is like to have a cigarette stick to your lip and rip a little skin off pulling it from their mouth, but let me tell you what. It looked like someone had kicked my damn teeth in by the time I got that bagel out of my mouth!IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -

lox are little stinky fishes that folks of the Scandahoovian persuasion seem to insanely love for some odd reason.
they're like sardines or anchovies.
my mother's side of my family is primarily of Norwegian descent, and they all go nuts over stinky little fishes -- I can't stand the nasty things (I'm the only normal one!)

People call smoked salmon that you put on bagels lox. At least at the deli's and bagel shops I have been to.
I think in the UK maybe they call all breakfast fish lox?snappy phrase

Mmmmmmm, Smoked Salmon, on a bagel. Who cares about making it into a spread, just throw a chunk of salmon on the thing. Damn, that's some good eatin'.
