  1. Hey I was looking at some cool old school looking boom boxes and thinking that I could like rebuild the inside with more modern technology. Has anybody done anything like this or have any resources that might be useful?

    Thanks

somehow i can't think of any 'boom boxs' as being old school - i.e. with tubes

Remember when it was cool to carry the boom box on your shoulder? The bigger, the better. Some of them took up to 10 D cell batteries!

Ahh the trip down memory lane.......

But as I recall, even at the end of the Seventies and the turn of the Eighties, Boom Boxes were kind of a joke even among the dudes that had them. The modern version of the Boom Box is a rice burner with neon lights under it and 36" woofers in the hatchback.

All things considered, I guess that you could strip the guts out of an vintage boom box and retrofit it with modern components, but why? You could just buy a modern one that has all you want.

Build a computer into it using a mini-atx motherboard, and put in 1 terabyte of hard drive space, then build in an FM broadcaster to send out your mP3's to the whole world! Now that would be a modern boom box.

I built one about 30 years ago.

I built a wood case. Inside I installed.....

---A 12 volt power supply that plugged into the AC outlet.
    ---A car radio
    ---Two car speakers
    ---A car antenna

I put a strong handle on top.

I was working in a noisy factory, but everybody knew when I arrived!!! :P :P

Nobody complained. Sometimes they actually said 'Turn it up'.

I also 'took requests' for different stations that they wanted to listen to.

Eventually I switched to a small 'pocket-size' radio with earphones.
The boss hated it! Oh well.
A man walked into his son's room and said..."Son, that will cause blindness."
The boy said, "Dad, I'm over here."
