Hello.
I have a BENQ DW1640 writer which is capable of 8X DL burning.
I am using 8X verbatim media.
When burning at 8X it should take about 15 mins to burn a double layer DVD+R but it takes over an hour!
I am using the latest nero and it does say that its burning at 8X on the screen but it takes alot longer then it should.
The disc seems to come out ok but why so slow?

Make sure that your IDE controller hasn't switched to PIO mode. If it has, you will need to uninstall it and reboot so Windows can reinstall it. Once Windows switches an IDE device to PIO mode, it will ignore any attempt to set it back to DMA in device manager. Do a search for DMA and PIO. There are a number of threads that discuss this in detail.

It could also be burner/firmware related.
