On the files that it cannot cut and paste,
what are the file types? What does it say about them
    in the Movie Info box?

The only files I could not cut and paste
protions of were MPEG-1 file types, because
they are muxed, and have to be demuxed
first before they could be manipulated.

    Please post back.

you are exactly riught again. just before I checked my email for a reply I decided to look alittle more into the file reemmbering the movie info: the files that can't be cut/pasted were MPEG-1 MUXED. I had discoved I could export them with QTPro to a Divix or 3ivx format and then do the editing three and recombining.

so all ios well and my QTPro is working.

now to decided if I want to go to QT7 and pay for the pro there. has anybody used QT7 with the 'Flip4Mac' WMV file addition?

do you thihnk using that one can convert and edit WMV on the Mac? convert them to QT?

  4. Well Terr

I was premature with my cleverness: the new files in 3ivx do indeed edit but they havo no sound!

    lucky I checked before discarding.

do I hvae to then use aprogram like MPEG stremclip to convert to QT and keep the sound?

Ill play with that and report back.

  5. Yes

passing those files through MPEG Streamclip did the job.

wonder why those files just don't work normally with QT?

should I post a thread other than this re: the Flip4Mac WMV 'patch'?

  6. Hi

I have QT7 Pro and recently added the 'Flip4Mac' WMV file addition. Everything works perfectly. It was a relief to get rid of the Window Media Player.

  8. Rotuts

I have the 10.3.9 version of OS X.

When you download the 'Flip4Mac' WMV file addition you get a trial version of 'Flip4Mac Import'. This allows you to import and export WMV files using QT Pro. If you want to continue to convert WMV files after the trial version expires, you will have to buy the upgrade ($29).

I trashed the Flip4Mac freebie junk as it tended to hose my system and render my QT useless for many other tasks. Frankly, Window Media Player is more stable and Mac-friendly (so you know how poorly I judge the Flip4Mac stuff).

There is a known incompatiblity issue with Flip4Mac's
offerings and OSX 10.4.4...heck, it's been EVERYWHERE
since the iLIFE 06 announcement rumple...suprised you haven't seen it:

    Macfixit, among others

For the record, Flip4Mac's stuff works great with OSX 10.3.9
and QT 6.52 (home), works fine with OSX 10.4.3 and
    QT 7.03( work).

ANd rotus: MpegStreamclip properly demuxes first,
then recombines to make your 3iVX file.
QT will not if you just choose "save as" or "export"
and create the 3ivx file. You have to ( go the long way)
and first save the video, then go back and save the audio,
    each as seperate files/filetypes,
then re-paste them yourself into a file and then save
    that as the 3ivx.
I blame Apple solely for that foobar!

    terryj,

Yeah, I know about the incompatibility but, even if it worked on my (fully updated) system, there are a number of apps that expect to call WMP when req'd and the Flip4Mac stuff can't change the code in these other apps. (Not their fault.)

    Rumple:

yeah, I think it has to do with M$ DRM moreso than
just being "picky" about which app plays what.
And M$ won't let them over that hump
( especially since '06 looks to be the start of
the "Battle for the Living Room" between
    M$ and Apple).

and yes, MPEGStreamclip has become a
"can't live without" app, at getting stuff done
    and out the door.
