Just bitterly disappointed. I love Pixar films, and would be sad to see them become the type of bland, pointless rubbish that signifies the Disney brand.

  4. Pixar won't change (much). Disney would be foolish to destroy such a successful hit making company. Instead, they are making John Lassiter (a creative genius) the head of Disney/Pixar animation. And now Steve Jobs will have a seat on the board. He will have tremendous influence over Disney's future. The future looks bright for Disney as far as I am concerned. Hell, Disney has been such a turd lately, that they can only get better with this acquisition.

I loved Disney films in the 60s and 70s. IMO, what happened over time is that Disney's distinctive style became too familiar and therefore no longer distinctive and exciting. Pixar is now here with it's new distinctive style and it's exciting. Over time I think the same thing will happen to Pixar with or without Disney, (of course, now it will be blamed on Disney), but it's really just a result of human nature wanting the "new and improved", and becoming disillusioned with the familiar.

Happy days are ahead for both Pixar and Disney. I think both will benefit from this merger. I also think the consumer will benefit as well. What will be interesting to see is whether the open environment Apple has created will clash with the closed environment of Disney.

  7. It already clashed... with Eisner. Now he is out. Iger looks like he wants to Embrace all that is Pixar. As for the consumer benefitting from this, I doubt it. Pixar was sharper in large part because of competition. It had WB, FOX, Dreamworks, and Disney to compete with. Now Dreamworks is with Paramount, and Pixar is with Disney. Disney will benefit, but the consumer won't. I certainly hope Pixar films don't get released in the same manner that Disney films get released (limited time releases, then out of print for years at a time).

  8. The thing Pixar does right is focus on story and character. That is one of the core values that Walt Disney himself had. Pixar movies have a strong story and don't rely on booger jokes and pop culture references (like Shrek). Disney let themselves stray from that core value. Now John Lassiter will be head of Disney animation and he will bring back that core value.

You do know who has released all Pixar pictures correct? That would be Disney Productions.

  10. Disney financed Pixar's films and released them through their distribution network. But Pixar was not part of Disney, therefore, they could keep their films on the shelf due to their distributuon agreement with Disney.

  11. Trust me guys,

When Big bland company buys a small creative company, you can kiss the creative one good buy.

IBM has done it with many software companies. They tried to change it from a t-shirt and jeans to Big Blue Suites and the end result was an exodus of talent.

At first there won't be a change. But little a virus, it will spread and kill of what has made PIXAR great. CREATIVE MOVIES THAT YOU ENJOY TO WATCH!

  12. I sincerely hope you are wrong. I know Steve Jobs would have a hard time accepting that.

  13. Remember John Lassiter came out of Disney. Now he's back. I predict great things for at least ten years.

I have to agree, this is bad news for Pixar/Apple and good news for Disney.A recent example is the "CW" network,a combination of CBS and Time Warner, those funny shows on the WB will now look like "60 Minutes".

It's a pure business transaction. There is willing buyer and seller. I am sure Steve is laughing all the way to bank.
If it's in dollar bill, it would weight tons.

Actually Steve Jobs got something better than cash. He got a tremendous amount of stock and a position on the board at Disney.
