My friend lent me some of his PAL DVD's he brought back from the UK and id like to copy them (dvd shrink, ect)

Only thing is that the copied DVDs wont play on my Hitatchi DVD/VCR however it plays on my JVC.

What id like to do is get it converted so it works on both (also incase I take some to the gf's place)

Then play them on the JVC.
Computer conversion between PAL and NTSC is complicated and time consuming.
Your question is asked AT LEAST 10 times per week with almost the same answer each time....invest in a DVD player that can play PAL DVD's....most are very cheap.

This is the way I would do that, though I’d rather prefer to avoid the job.
Copy the VIDEO_TS folder to your hdd. Then load it into TDA to get out an mpeg2 file. Demultiplex to get two files, audio and video.
Load the m2v file into VirtualDubMod to make the NTSC conversion, and then use Besweet for the audio framerate conversion.
On the left side you can find tutorials for each step.

Besides....if you do not own the DVD's....you are not allowed to copy them.

Perhaps the equipment and software was trying to tell him that. PAL won't play on NTSC equipment anyways. Why not support those who bring you the entertainment and purchase the movies?

  6. My DVD player can play NTSC dvd's and or svcd but the quality is not as good as a true pal video but it's perfectly watchable.

Check in the user guide of your hitachi drive to see if it has an option to force the output to NTSC.

Me I need to do that (tell the player to force the conversion NTSC->PAL) to play ntsc in color on my pal TV. If I keep the output of the player in ntsc the picture is grainy and in b/w

If they are commercial DVDs, then you do not have the right to make copies of them.

why do people here keep giving advice to people who are obviously in breach of the forum rules?

Because it's not obvious from his post. There's no indication that they are commercial DVDs.

  10. Please read the rules regarding backing up DVD's. It is generally acceptable to ask how to backup DVD that you own for your own use. But not how to copy borrowed or rented DVD's
