So far I've made 5 coasters and 2 good disks. Glad I didn't pay full price for these frisbees.

I bought a 5 pack ... all frisbees !!!! Tried burning on 3 different drives:
Pioneer A09
NEC 3520
NEC 3550
All failed about 1/2 way through the burns.
I tried Verbatim DL discs ... so far 100% success. Stay away from the RiData's. -
You guys are lucky that you blew little money on small packs .... I just paid well over a hundred+ for two spindles of DL RiData printables and popped out 5 coasters out of 7! Trying to RMA them for full money back. Never, ever, never will I buy Ritek s*it again.

Doesn't anybody read the DVD Media database on the left...?

I certainly agree that the Verbatim DLs are much better, but back when the Rytek DLs (Branded as Memorex) were much cheaper, I got pretty reliable results by always keeping the VIDEO_TS folder to 7.5gb or less. The Ryteks always appeared to burn fine for me (Pioneer 109) but I would get all sorts of breakups etc on playback right after the layer change if the total file got over 7.5. It seemed their coatings got imperfect out near the edge of the disk.
Now that you can get Verbatims for $2 each, I use them for most of my DLs, but I still use my old stock of Ryteks for small disks down around 7.1 -7.3gb and they work fine. Try shrinking your file a little and see if they start working. -
Make sure you have the latest firmware on your drives. It helps with DL burning a lot! I posted about this in this thread:

Long story short, my new Pioneer DVR-110 with the latest firmware burns these RiData DL discs perfectly every time. I even bought more of them from www.newegg.com for like $1.60 each."May the Force be with you!" -
I have a Sony DRX710UL DL burner. The most recent firmware updater seems to be for Windows only. Any ideas on what to do next?
Thanks.
Just spoke with Sony Tech support via their dedicated chat system (kinda cool). They have no plans to issue a mac-compatible FW update for this unit. There is a current PC (exe) updater however. My netowrk at work has layers and layers of system security. I tried plugging the device to my Windows XP workstation and running the .exe off a thumb drive so I wouldn't violate any policies but no joy. Any ideas?
Thanks.Merlin Macuser

Not sure about Sony firmware on a Mac. I bet you're SOL. If possible, I would buy a new Pioneer drive. They are only about $40.

Do a Google search!

Looks like Mac firmware doesn't seem to exist for your drive. It does for the DRX810UL though."May the Force be with you!" -
g4jedi,
Thanks for the tip...didn't work though. I got an error message saying "this drive cannot be updated." Gonna have to borrow a PC somewhere.Merlin Macuser
