    Hey all,
Ive looked on the Tools Link to the left. I see theres "DVD Media Inspector" but its for Panther and up. Im still on Jaguar. Anyone tried this on Jag? or does anyone know of any other tools to do this.? Ive also been looking on version tracker.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

it's the only one available for the Native Mac OS, sorry.
all others are Native to Windows XP.

What prevents you from moving up to at least say, Panther v. 10.3.5?

    Thanks for your response terryj,
"it's the only one available for the Native Mac OS, sorry"

When I upgrade, I might as well do it to the Latest OS, but, with my Mac which is slimlined for audio recording, its not an ordinary upgrade situation, although since Apple bought out Emagic it makes things a little more easier. Theres midi boxes, and sound cards which have to be considered as well. One must ,as Im sure you know, keep these things "in step" with each other or youre likely to face issues.

sooo...when I do finally upgrade, I wanna do it right

I was even looking in the "pay for" utilities and still couldnt find anything. If any one knows of or can can recommend one of these Id be interested.

    Thanks, Musical.

I understand...it is a similar situation for Video as well.
Unfortunately, this is THE ONLY program built for
the MAC OS., pay or free.

Unless you know somebody who wants to take up
the cause, that at least knows unix, then someone
could make a verison for your os....otherwise,
you'll have to wait until you can get to a new OS.

Yep, ...looks like thats about the size of it.

"Unfortunately, this is THE ONLY program built for

Well it looks like youre correct on this too, as Ive been looking further on version tracker and not found anything.

Im in two minds as to whether I should give DVD Media Inspector a try anyway, as so Im told, SOMETIMES you can get away with it. Im reticent though, as my Mac runs Logic as sweet as...and you know what they say.... If it aint broke, dont fix it...

Thanks anyway, terryj for your input.

  6. Toast 7 also tells you the media codes. And links to this sites database of user experiences.

What I really envy from the PC side is the tool [MediaCodeSpeedEdit] that enables one to rewrite the firmware's writing method for a particular media.

  7. The command line tool called cdrecord from cdrtools can do it. Prebuilt binaries exist at:

    ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/ProDVD/

when you get it, open a Terminal window. Type "chmod +x " (there is a space at the end there), and drag & drop the binary onto the Terminal window. Hit return or enter. This sets the executable bit on the download (it isn't set when you get it).

To get the info you want:

    cdrecord-prodvd-2.01.01-powerpc-apple-macosx1.4 dev=IODVDServices -atip

    ------------
    Manufacturer: 'MCC'
    Media type: '004'
    Product revision 0
    ADIP numbytes 56
    Reference speed 35
    Max speed 84

If you have more than 1 DVD recorder its IODVDServices/0 or /1

hmmmm..... 84 - my wet dream

Thanks willrob and anaxamanda for your responses.

Mmm, so toast does this. I was wondering if there were apps that had this feature included, and was going to be my next line of inquiry. I'll go and check out toast when I get a little more time.

Command line stuff is a bit over my head and I wouldnt want my Mac to go into never never land ...and never come back, which is what could happen for those of us who arnt confident in this area.

Anyway, thanks for the help guys.
