I have an avi video, from which I want to cut out begining middle and end, for example when I cut the first 60 seconds out and watch the movie, it is posistion at 55 seconds, or even when I try to cut the movie at 65 seconds, then when I look at the file it is still 55 seconds, ( I mean to remove the first 60 seconds of the movie). When I try to go further and remove 90 seconds it is positionned at 75 seconds, which is not what I want, I have tryed to use few splitting software, VirtualDub, avi splitter, they all allmost give me the same result. And I cant seem to figure out whats wrong. Does anyone knows the cause of this or the solution to this.

darksniper,
You may be needing the services of a frame accurate editor. Some editors only allow cutting on I frame boundaries. I think this is the case for Vdub (others please correct me as I have not used Vdub in quite some time). My favorite editor is TMPGenC Editor (it is a frame accurate editor and I have only used it on mpg files). Do not cofuse this with TMPGenC. They are two different tools. TMPGenC does do editing as well but it is not (if memory serves) a frame accurate cutter / editor either.
However, the time errors you are reporting do not seem to fit my editing experience. Unless it may be attributed to operator error. I have often made the mistake of thinking that I had the input and output cut pointers properly set only to find out later than my fat fingers had missed the mark. -
If you've got something like mjpeg encoded video, or all I frame mpg2 or wmv etc., then you can cut/join anywhere. Otherwise you're most often limited to the closest I (or key) frame. You can try the tool section listed on the left, maybe give a few more apps a try, & you can try cutting a little further into the clip, making sure you *catch* the I frame.
A lot depends on the compression used though, so wouldn't hurt to post the kind of video you have inside your avi. -
If Vdub is set to "Direct Stream Copy" then you are limited to cutting at key frames, use the gold key buttons to locate them. Otherwise use "Full Processing" to make frame accurate cuts, be sure to select a compression type before saving.

There is no need to encode the whole video if you use the 2 software that I mentioned. They only encode the necessary frames, the process time is much faster.
