Hey guys, the reason I ask is because I can't seem to maintain the proper 4:3 aspect ratio, or any ratio at all for that matter, when I view the authored DVD on my television set. The horizontal axis of the image looks slightly elongated, making the people look a bit squished. I also viewed the DVD on several other sets and DVD players, all with the same problem. However, they all look normal when played back on my PC monitor.
From what I've heard, PC monitor pixels are square while TV pixels are rectangular, which may explain why TV monitors are slightly wider than PC monitors under the 4:3 ratio. How does one compensate for this and maintain a proper 4:3 ratio?
To ensure that my .avi's are encoded correctly, I check the resultant MPEG2 stream with GSpot. For all my movies it states:
720 x 480
FAR: 1.500 (3:2)
PAR: 0.889
DAR: 1.333 (4:3)
And this is one of my avisynth scripts generated by fitCD:
Source: 640 x 352
AVISource("F:\XVID\24.avi")
LanczosResize(720,368,6,0,628,352)
AddBorders(0,56,0,56)
I use avisynth to resize, CCE SP 2.70 to encode 23.976 fps movies and pulldown.exe, Procoder Express 2.0 to encode DV, TDA to author and Nero to burn.
On a side note, If I record my DV tapes directly to DVD using a JVC M70 with s-video in it does the exact same thing.
Does anyone have any suggestions or any tips to help me understand?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Quite sure, regardless of the TV set, I just can't seem to get over this issue. I was thinking I should resize to 640 x 480, but that might cross the line.
