  1. Hello all,

As for as I know, I know only 2 software which are frame accurate to edit avi, aviutl and Avidemux.

Does any body know any other software which can do frame accurate edit for avi file?

  3. There is a recent post on the VideoRedo site that says avi editing is due in the next few weeks. What it will cover has not been released, but based upon past experience and level of support it should be good. If you part with the money, you get Mpeg2 and a whole bunch of other features.

  4. It seems VirtualDub can't do frame accurate cutting.

As for videoredo, I will have a look of it. I heard it's a good program to edit mpeg. I used to use mpeg video wizard to do mpeg editing.

Virtualdub can if using DV-AVI (since every frame is an I frame). Any other codecs and AFAIK there must be some sort of re-encoding if you cut a keyframe out (in any program).
    If in doubt, Google it.

VirtualDub will do accurate cutting on the keyframes, anywhere else you may have problems. But that's because of the keyframe spacing on the video, not Virtualdub. Check the keyframe spacing in under "File information' in VD.

Since AVI can be any number of codecs it would help if we knew what kind of AVI the original poster was asking about.

For instance an AVI capture in DV, HuffyUV and/or PICVideo MJPEG (the 3 most popular AVI capture formats) can all be edited with VirtualDubMod on a frame accurate basis.

Pretty much any decent editor can do frame accurate edits, but re-encoding is required if the cuts aren't on a keyframe. That is why DV is the preferred format.
