  1. I got the PAL PS2 version of Crisis Zone (I loved the arcade version and wasted loads of quarters during Summer 2000! ) but I could not stand the PS-2 version due to the fact that every time you would shoot with the G-Con 2 gun the whole screen would get filled up with grey myst/smoke from the gun shots resulting in a very frustrating visual experience!
    Quite awful really!
There was no option to turn of the smoke whilst using the gun either, the only way to do it was to play the game with the joypad which sucks, especially when I bought the gun for the sol purpose of living up to the arcade experience.

Can you turn off the irritating gun smoke while using the G-Con2 in the US & JPN versions of Crisis Zone?
I wanted to know before I buy them.

    Thanks in advance.

I assume you mean the classic screen-flash effect everytime the trigger is pulled?

Yeah that has annoyed me for quite some time with lightgun games. When shooting like crazy and or having 2 players, it can get quite bad produceing almost a strobe-light effect.

I remember playing house of the dead 2 for the old dreamcast, that sucked. I think in recent games such as on PS2 namco titles they toned it down, but honestly i don't see why they do that crap anyway.

After awhile you can learn to tune it out but its still annoying on some level.

  3. The classic-screen flash of HOT2 is annoying indeed but you can eliminate that in the options in Crisis Zone for the PS-2. The most frustrating thing is not the flash-effect but the fog/smoke effect that fills up the whole screen every time you pull the trigger. Combined with the fact that you’re using a constantly firing machinegun, you have one very frustrating experience indeed trying to see through that smoke!
Only way to eliminate the smoke is by playing it with a joypad. Kind of stupid though as I specifically bought the gun included with Crisis Zone pack.

I don’t understand why Namco did that? They could at least provided with an option to turn it off. I didn’t remember it in the 1999 arcade version at least?
Is it the same for the JPN & USA versions?

    Ah like in Time Crisis

    This will help
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_gun

The first detection method, used by the Zapper, involves drawing each target sequentially in white light after the screen blacks out. The computer knows that if the diode detects light as it is drawing a square (or after the screen refreshes), that is the target the gun is pointed at.
    or

The screen is drawn by a scanning electron beam that travels across the screen starting at the top until it hits the end, and then moves down to update the next line. This is done repeatedly until the entire screen is drawn, and appears instantaneous to the human eye as it is done very quickly.

When the player pulls the trigger, the game brightens the entire screen for a split second, and the computer (often assisted by the display circuitry) times how long it takes the electron beam to excite the phosphor at the location the gun is pointed at. It then calculates the targeted position based on the monitor's horizontal refresh rate (the fixed amount of time it takes the beam to get from the left to right side of the screen).

    I found this
Whenever you pull the trigger, the screen momentarily displays a bright white flash. This is normal for this type of shooting technology; the flash is used to calculate where the gun was pointed when you pulled the trigger. The flash is brief, and doesn't seem to affect game play, although it could become a fatigue factor in extended gaming sessions.

  5. A very interesting and informative read indeed.
Too bad it doesn't mention the annoying smoke/fog effect of Crisis Zone.
However, the screen does not get filled up with smoke when you fire the gun In Time Crisis III, if memory serves right.

I thought he was talking about the flash If time crisis is the same game as crisis zone there should be no smoke effetc just a flash when you shoot thast lasts for a brief moment

I see that the smoke is just is feature of the game when I did more research on it
