  1. Hello all!!

Got some problems when playing some .avi files and i think i'm in need of a certain codec. You see when i play some movies i can hear the sound, but it's behind a loud distorted fuzz.

So does anyone know what codec i need to install.

BTW: I'm playing the movie in windows media player, have tried others but in others i dont hear even a beep

According to G-Spot, it is a dolby digital (AC3) audio track, and you have the codecs required.

I would try PowerDVD, if you have it, or VLC or Media PLayer Classic and see how you go

Yes, I ran into the same symptoms a couple years ago on an AVI with AC3. AC3Filter solved the problem.

It may be of some interest to note that I recently had the same problem on an AVI with WMA audio. Tried extracting a WAV, no dice, it sounded just as bad. VirtualDub and GSpot didn't tell me anything useful, CodecSniper said the codec was okay. So I tried configuring AC3Filter to handle PCM, and it worked. I'm guessing it was a codec merit problem.

[EDIT] BTW, to state the obvious. If this a DL'ed file, it's common for there to be problems of some kind. Sometimes obscure, sometimes unfixable.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!
