I have joined several mpeg2 files with different bitrates (CBR and VBR). All are standard PAL 720x576 4:3 25fps and have the same audio source, AC3 192KBps @ 48KHz.
Question:
Will it play on a standard stand alone DVD player?

Yes. A player doesn't know CBR vs VBR. It only knows BR, which each of your files have.

Depends on how they are joined too, me thinks.I'd not join explicitly before authoring, but let the authoring app (TMPGEnc DVD Author) do implicitly that by adding the parts in sequence to the same title, then remove the chapter points TDA inserts at each join.

Joined them all together into one big Mpeg2 and seems to work 100% on my DVD player.
