hey guys, it seems only recently that when I swap from my stereo speakers to my headphones i get a weird sound playing back video files.

Im getting an under water kind of noise.

tried changing speaker settings to headphones etc.. no luck

also tried different headphones with no luck.

    any suggestions?

    cheers

What happens if you plug your speakers into your headphone jack, or vice versa?

All video files? Only video files?
Often when noise removal is used on audio files it leaves an "underwater" effect to it.

Looks like its both that have the issue,

ie anything generating sound..all post audio effects are turned off..

also have an additional headphone output on top of case. have also tried using original output with same results.

    seems fine on surround,

    sounds crap through headphones.

If you're not sure then they probably aren't (you'd remember spending that much money on a set of headphones).

I'm not sure what else to check. You could try reinstalling your audio software.

    cheapies yes

still dont get why it only seems to happen through headphones and not audible through surround when no settings are changed and the out put is simply physicaly switched from speakers to headphones

Guessing, perhaps you're getting a surround set-up piped to your phones. Lot of sound drivers provide a fake surround or 3D effect if you prefer, and if you can't turn it on or off, maybe the drivers need to be removed & re-installed, updating at the same time if available?

2nd guess, could be the prob is always there, but speakers aren't capable of re-producing it.

3rd guess, perhaps over-driving headphones, maybe just with bass?
