  1. I noticed today that a movie I was downloading using kazaa was running at 14-17 kb/s steadily. My usual speed is around 3-4 kb/s top speed. The odd thing is that if I stop that download and try another, the speed is back to normal. I am wondering how it is possible to be recieving files at that speed whne I have never before. I have a 56k modem, but my connection always says it is running at 28.8. If I can get 15kb/s, does anyone know how I could use that speed for any download? I have been looking everywhere for something to boost my speed anyway since it is so sluggish.

    trooper,

sometimes these D/L speeds are quirks and things. I get too on my 56k
but as I've posted in this thread and then some, it's also a
cache thing. If you hold off for a couple of seconds or too, you see those
    high speeds showing.

  3. - Does anyone get the impression that we are all entering into the Twilight Zone... Vhelp has a scientific answer in the thread that I started earlier , but not all the mysteries are cleared up. Other people are reporting this phenomenon to. My downloads didn't really slow at all, and furthermore I'm left still in the dark as to how I can possibly have 200Mb file of anything within 1 hour on my computer.
I would be very interested to see just how busy internet traffic is tonight compared to any other day??
Trooper have u checked that this file is o.k. and plays properly??

I've noticed that my menu bars do not match what your's is showing,
based on the pic I D/L'ed from Pinoy's website.

    UPdate.

So far, any video's I try and D/L are either 0.25k/sec or 4.8k/sec

    Not very impressive!

But, anther thought came to mind. That maybe, just mabe some
files can be transmitted very fast. The best way to find this out
is to re-D/L that same file from the same location on another
    day, not in another hour.
So, until I see for myself with an actual successful D/L, I'll stick
to my belief that it's not possible, other than what I've stated
in my prev. post(s) as to possible causes for such D/L speeds!

Well, since bilbogod can't supply me w/ a location, I will continue trying a few
more files to D/L before I give up on this FUN embarkment I made today and
do some FUN experiments on my RIPing/Captures of Dogma!

    for now, ...Later peoples!

    UPDATE ! !

Ok, Here is what I have thus far!

Judge for yourself - you unbeliever bastardddsss (ME), he, he. . . . .
I'll provide my theories a bit LATER! maybe!

Ok, I'm debating if I should continue letting the D/L complete. Well,
maybe I will. I have to be sure that it works, but it is a DivX AVI file
and I don't really care for such, BUT in this case, I will allow!!

Dude I just love the attempts at masking your file I never realised there was actually someone called Harry Potter.. he he..
Well now that I no longer have to preach to the converted, I eagerly await, rhyme , reason and plausible explanations as to todays download insanities
p.s. Mine is that Father Christmas is giving us all a taste of Broadband for 1 day only. Let me hope he continues..

  15. Well it has been a great day for me. I now have 3 full movies. Each are about 400mb and I got them done in about 8 hours. Thats not bad at all for a 56k modem. LOL. I wonder how long it will last? Well better get back to downloading.

    Ok,

This is what i'll conject here. . .

...that is, that this has ben happening all the time but that you
haven't spotted it till today?? All I know is this, I'll try again tomorrow
and so forth. . . I did D/L a PREView of Harry Potter, case you were
    really interested! I didn't D/L the movie. It was a 19mb D/L, but did
    take a while aprox 8k/sec.

As to the prev. post's (pic) I was getting between 8k and 19k speeds
but mostly at 9k to 11k, and I did finally give up and stop the D/L,
as it was a 204mb file, and it was (speed) fluctiating up/down too much
for me. My guess is that this was a direct connect of some form or
variation, and to anser (in theory) why my D/L speed fluctuated so
much was that the person's who's PC was D/L from or off of was doing
certain things in his/her PC and that would upset the speed, hence the
8k, 9k 11k 18k, etc speed difference every so often. Well, I said
    I would theorize!

I believe that there is NO special occassion for this D/L speed. It'll
be here tomorrow and the next day... just have to D/L the at the right
moment to be lucky, i guess! But we shall see!

    I have another question, please!
    .
    .
I'd like to try and share a file here via Morpheous, just to see if the
D/L speed fluctates any and too test the speed of D/L. Is anybody
interested?? I'll have send a 10MB or greater file size and to ya, BUT,
you have to tell me how ta do it!!!

    I'm waiting here! He, he...

  17. Hang on - if this is true (I am on 56k dialup) then DSl is just a lie! ISPs are ripping us out of cash we don't need to spend. Woohooo - tell me how to get 11-18 kb/s!!!

    ember, ember...

don't get tooooooo caried away just yet!!

I feel/share your same here, but we still need to figure some things
out. There IS an perfect or too explanation too all this, but till we
can find them (exactly) we'll just have to speculate, as I have done
on many on this subject. But, it's FUN!

Mind you, the pic i share here (above) is showing 18k/sec transfer.
And, yes that is true. But, this number was fluctating quite a bit,
    from 8k, 9k, 11k 18k, etc. Sometimes for a minute on 18k and others
a few seconds, etc., etc, but still have promise. I never got 40k or
80k but then again, it probably depends on the FILE I'm D/L'ing and
who I'm D/L'ing it from and WHEN and also how much traffic, so, much
to digest - just so much. But, even at 18k, that was defenately showing
some potential to continue using Morpheous, etc. Oh, and that 19MB
file I downloaded DID play fine! But, since it was a .MOV file, I had
to download the PLUG-in for it, ...was a pain in the ass, but worked!

Still, who wants to show me how to share/send a file via Morpheous
    as a test? ? ? ? ?

  19. to share a file just put it in your shared folder and it will shared threw the Morphues and KazaA network

  20. Ahhhh kazza/morpheous all ya ppl getting higher speeds from 56kb modems well actually you dont get 18-20kbs per sec you are downloading at your normal speed of 4-5kbs from one person. kazza/morpheous allows you to download from more than one person so if you get a file which a a couple people have you get a total speed of all these people which can arrive to 20kbs or more. In conclusion the 18-20kbs you see is just a sum of the each person's speed. Merry Xmas!

    JStyle,

Ahhh, this info sounds a bit more clearer! Tanx!

Pinoy, I do see a share folder on my desktop. If I drag a clip inside
it, afterwards, to I have to tell Morpheus that I did this so that it can
re-list its master on-line list on the internet?

Assuming I do this right now, and the file name is "12-27-01-TVW-01-05-MOVIEPRE.MPG"
how will Morpheous know this, and how to I say to people that it's safe to D/L this clip
    at any given time?
Also, if I delete this file from my "shared folder" will that stop people from polling me
    for the file, etc.???

    Thanks for your help!

  24. Jstyle - sorry dude but you are wrong. I was speaking to Trooper116 earlier via p.m. and both of us were trying to contact the people for whom these files were coming from. Trooper accumulated over 3 400MB (read carefully ***WORKING***movies in approx 8 hours. We are very familiar with the interface of Morpheus and Kazaa, and can categorically assure you that these were ACTUAL download speeds and not just some error of display. At the end of the day, Troopers files all work. As for mine I need a codec that I'm missing or mine are useless.
Note that until yesterday, nothing like this has ever happened when I have been using it, and I have done so daily over the last fifteen months. Oh and BTW, just to make this more interesting, the guy that Trooper116 was downloading from was on 56K and not some fancy T3 connection. Go figure??? When someone can suss this out properly, and not just assume that we are deluded fools, let me know

Once you taste broadband, u will never go back to dial up!

I AVERAGE 150kbps on downloads... And thats cuz the server slows me down.

I could (in theaory) DL at 512kbps..

And I think I need to look harder at Morpheous.. I cant seem to ever find and working movie "previews"...
    Quote Quote
  26. To preview the DAT files in your Morpheus share folder, you need to open them up with either The Playa or Virtual Dub. I guess the usual rules apply about having the right codecs. On the subject of download speeds in the U.K. JANET (The Academic Network), always gave good results, but if universities are similar in the states, then you probably have to contend with the firewall they always put in place. If anyone knows how you get round this let me know

  27. Well this morning i woke up to find that i had finished another movie. I was going to start another one but when i tried the speed was normal again. I have to figure out what caused the increase speed so i can duplicate it. LOL. It is hard to go back to waiting days for files. Well, if anyone finds any info share it with everyone else. By the way, the movies I got were: lord of the rings, harry potter, ocean's eleven, and final fantasy: the spirits within and all work fine. See ya later and merry christmas.

  28. Started pulling Off TLOTR from Morpheus yesterday at 36kbps average, but still cant get any of these high speed transfers to play. I've updated my divx codecs with 4.02 but this still doesn't make it play. When I check the file information in VirtualDub it just says it is an uncompressed RGB. I find myself becoming every bit as sceptical as those who originally questioned the validity of these download speeds.... Keep the info coming everyone... If anyone wants to set up an experiment with file transfers, than let us know

  29. Btw folks.. use The new Morpheus X fix to refresh your download sources every five minutes. This should ensure that you get faster downloads. Just make sure that you read the disclaimer before using it

  30. I have to say this fix is excellent. Left my p.c. downloading over night, and woke up hoping for at least 80Mb extra to be done (yeah broadband users I know this is crap, but I'm not talking to you
I'd reached 120Mb and my modem had cut out (Or Aol kicked my 56k arse off their line
I think the guy who designed this fix needs to be congratulated, I for one am going to send hom an e-mail
