GA-7N400 Pro2 (Rev 1.x) is the model number of my motherboard. I am not exactly sure if that is the correct revision, but I think so.

It's Giga-byte. Last time something similar happened all I had to do is take out the battery ( lithium button cell on motherboard) and then I put it back in and it worked.

All other fans turn and leds turn on. I get no video at all, but that fan on the graphics card comes on. The profile of my computer is fairly up to date.

I tried removing everthing, except for the ram and the video card, but still I got nothing.

Anybody know what this could be?

    Is the motherboard fried?

    Any ideas or comments welcome.

Sounds like a burnt out chipset to me. If the fan died before and considering the high heat track record of processors installed in those boards (I've replaced two) I'd say you finally lost the board. I dare say the chip is probably also trashed but everything else is more than likely functional as long as you do not continue to run the board.

Looks like its time to upgrade.

Well maybe I will be able to test the processor at work.

If it works I will most likely just get a new motherboard.

I can highly recommend the Chaintech 7NJL6 board. It's priced around $50 and is quite similiar to your current board with some nice added improvements. I've been running this board for quite sometime now and when someone wants a cheap computer that they can add parts to later on this is the board I was recommending. I've now switched to building cheap PCs with Chaintech's SK8T800 Socket 754 boards as they are priced comparable, have a similiar setup to the 7NJL6, and support 64bit processors. A good board with a nice selection of overclocking standards built into the BIOS.

    Hey ROF,

I've been shopping online for that SK8T800 card; Newegg doesn't seem to carry them as well, so I was wondering if you purchase online or at a retail store? If online, where do you get them? Thanks, I have been looking for a lower cost board for "bread & butter" building (like you). Now the the AMD 64s are out so I'm looking for a really dependable board. Thanks...

NewEgg has a complete line of AGP video cards. Newegg sells the SK8t800 for under $50 dollars. For the price and performance you can't beat the Radeon 9550 AGP card for this SK8T800 board. NewEgg sells it as a Powercolor Radeon for around $60. It is Directx9 compatible and does Shader2, is 128bit and has 256MB onboard.

I rarely buy parts locally at brick and mortar stores. If I'm in a pinch and need a cable or something, maybe. I can even find cheap 3 piece speaker systems at Walmart and such, but I tend to buy online. I can highly recommend NewEgg. Their customer support is outstanding.
