  1. 1) Fast encoding versus quality encoding on many capture softwares (usually in the form of a slider control or drop down selectable option) implies that fast encodong is not thorough and could mean a compromise in the quality. My question Its not the bitrate that is compromised - then what aspect of quality is compromised?

    2) A PAL SVCD preset capture preset is a 480 x 576 frame @ 25 fps at aroundf 2300 (this differs within a range) variable or constant bit rate Is 25 ps the playback rate or the capture rate for this preset? If frames are dropped while capturing then the playback will be jerky AND the possibilities of lack of audio-video sync goes up. Is this right?

    3) Can the capture rate of video through a TV tuner card and subsequent software be measured using any software ?

    4) Which is the best of the following video capture software? a) Mainconcept PVR b) Nero c) Bonestech TVR d) any other (please specify)

A1) Usually, that IS the bitrate being compromised. Less bitrate you allow, less encoder has to work with, the faster encoder works, but lousier the quality.

A2) 25fps is the playback rate, and will be the capture rate if your PC can keep up. It's really more of a trial-and-error.

A3) Depends on what do you mean by capture rate. The output file would have a rate, but that would really tell you anything about the card itself. It also depends on the system's throughput and all that.

A4) Doubt it really matters THAT much, does it? Try them all and see which one your system likes better.
