I recieved a Lite-On LVW-1101HC1 for Christmas; I really like it, as it has the 3 hour recording mode, I don't really care about regions, I can even bypass Macrovision with a black box. The recording ability is pretty good, although at the 6 hour mode, it records to VCD standard, so the video recording looks pretty crappy.. BUT otherwise.. I'm fairly happy with the recorder..
Until now.
I recorded an old videotape (non-commercial, just family stuff) and then took the disc to the PC to edit it. I ripped it with DVD Decrypter; (I had to install ReadDVD to get my PC to SEE the contents of this dvd.) Everything went well, until DVD Decrypter began to rip the 3d VOB file..
It wouldn't rip at all. Just kept finding ERRORS. DVD Decrypter was stuck at ONE spot.
Soooo (this was a cheapie DVD+R OptiDisc, sold under the GQ name that I picked up at Fry's some time ago..) I thought this must be a MEDIA error. So, I changed Media. I then tried a Memorex DVD+RW (it was actually made by Ricoh).. the SAME thing happened.. it STOPPED ripping at EXACTLY the SAME place that the OptiDisc did.
I then tried several OTHER blank DVD+Rs.. from different manufactures... no matter WHAT Blank DVD I used.. DVD Decrypter (And I've tried to use DVDFab Decrypter as well.. it does the SAME thing.).. all ripping activity STOPPED at EXACTLY the SAME place on ALL those dvd+Rs.. at the 3d VOB file ~!
I then UPGRADED the firmware, hoping that this would solve the problem.
It didn't solve anything.
Now.. this IS a pretty decent little DVD Recorder.. these same discs play back IN entirety in the recorder itself.. BUT my wife got it so that we could transfer all those Video Tapes to DVD, after I have edited them..I really HAVE to place the content of these recorded dvds on my hard drive to work on 'em.
Does anyone have any ideas as to WHY this Lite-On DVD Recorder is recording ERRORS halfway through EVERY DVD+R that I use ?
I'd hate to take it back because it really IS pretty nice, and truly does a great job at recording.. the video is superb. BUT there must be SOME way of transfering the COMPLETE content of the recorded DVD to my PC hard drive. I've really tried everything that I could think of.. I even tried IsoBuster..(didn't work at all).
Any suggestions ? Maybe something is wrong with the burner itself..maybe I just should exchange this particular model for another recorder; maybe the same model, just to see if it'll do the same thing.
But, I'd still like to know WHY a NEW Lite-On DVD Recorder is doing this !
Any Suggestions ?
Thanks much for all of your help !

Lordsmurf,
I have a TDK 440N burner on this dedicated video computer(XP Pro). Admittedly, I haven't upgraded the firmware on the TDK in a while..probably a year. Also, when I rip the DVD+RW's with DVD Decrypter, I've always use the FILE mode. But, since you've mentioned it.. I've also tried OTHER modes as well.. and it still won't rip past the 3d VOB, or rip to completion of the dvd.
THEN.. I thought.. what the heck.. I tried ripping it on my other computer (Win2KPro); this computer saw the UDF file system immediately, without any problems. It has a very old second hand Toshiba DVD-Rom, I haven't EVER upgraded the firmware in the Toshiba. I chose only to rip the 3d VOB file. And whaddya know.
It completed.
I tried the OTHER dvd+RWs that I had recorded with the Lite-On. I ripped the 3 VOB file.
ALL of them completed.
Soooo - Wonderful! I've now determined that the problem is NOT with the Lite-On DVD Recorder at all.. the problem is actually in the TDK 440N Burner !! (Who woulda thunk it?)
Thank you Lordsmurf, for suggesting that I look at the burner that I was using to rip.. Now.. do ya think that a firmware up grade on the TDK 440N burner might help with this problem ?
Thanks again Lordsmurf, and everyone for the suggestions. !
