  1. I extract video off my series 1 TiVo using TyTool v9 rel 18. Although all the original recorsings are in 16:9, for some reason the resulting MPG file thinks it is 4:3 ratio. Therefore everything I play it on, eg Windows Media Player, or when converted to DiVx for my Archos PVR plays the file at 4:3 ratio (ie black bars at the sides and everything tall and thin).

Is there a simple utility that allows me to alter the setting of an MPG file so that software correctly displays it in the original 16:9 ratio?

You can use DVDpatcher to change the AR flag in an mpg. Fast and simple.
If a player checks this, or play everyting at 4:3 is another story.

  3. Perfect, thank you. Will need to do some more extensive testing, but initial test seems to have solved the problem...and so easy!

  4. Yes, DVDPatcher seems to work quite well -- and there's no need to demux the audio and video as required by ReStream. Thanks Mats!
