    Hi there,
I'm copying all of my music videos from vhs tapes onto dvd. afterwards i'll create my own dvd by using tmpegenc dvd-author.

the vhs recorded music videos are quite low in loudness and i have boosted all of them up by normalizing each one to 0db, using wavelab. i know that normalizing audio will not boost the whole song up to 0db, only the loudest peak of a song.

my question is: are there any rules by normalizing video-audio tracks?

could it be possible that the sound will be distorted on my tv after normalizing up to 0db?

after normalizing loudness of my videos all of them sound fine on my PC using a headphone or PC-speakers, but will they also sound fine when playing on my TV-speakers?

just asking, cause i have tested the audio track of my official bought dvd by Frankie goes to hollywood - hard on and the sound-loudness of that dvd isn't normalized at all. it's even recorded with very low loudness. that's why i'm wondering, if i do something wrong if i'm going to normalize the loudness of my videos.

hope someone can help very soon.
    thanks very much!
    TC

AC3 is normalised to around -27dB, but has a wide dynamic range. Much wider than VHS has. As you VHS source won't have the same range as a pro DVD, I would consider normalising to around -6dB. If you are unsure, grab a two minute clip and create a number of versions - say -31dB, -27dB, -6dB and 0dB. Burn them all to a DVD -RW and see how they sound.

From a personal perspective, I aim to try to keep anything I author on par with my commercial discs so I know what I will be getting from a given volume level on my amp.
