DivxToDVD should be able to do that.

But the way I do it is to encode each one separately then put them into a authoring program and let it do the joining. Less sync problems that way.

If you really want to combine them in the AVI format, try Virtualdub. You can also frameserve them from VD after joining to a MPEG-2 encoder like TMPGEnc and not have to create an intermediate file. This saves hard drive space and time. If you look at VD in 'Tools', you can see the frameserving guide.

File > Open - select your first avi

    File > Append Segment

I use virtualdubmod but the principal's the same.

    With the virtualdub method,

What if you get a incorrect bitrate error that requires you to extract the audio seperatley and reencode with a CBR?

This has happened to me many times. Wouldnt it degrade the audio quality by reencodeing it a second time, what if the source is AC3 ?

When you say you encode each part individually wouldnt that make the file too big?
Most transcoders use as much space as possible when converting an avi to vobs.

Just lower the output size in the converter tool or lower the bitrate instead of joining avis with differen audio.
