I have a Toshiba DVD recorder I purchased about a year ago. Until now I had never tried to copy anything off of a DVD-ram disc to VHS. I tried it and all I get is snow. Is there any way to record from a DVD-ram disc to another media? My Sony DVD-burner won't read the disc either. Am I screwed?

Do you have to use DVD-RAM discs with your recorder?

on a regular DVD, the file structure should have VOB files, the main media portion of the DVD.. On DVD Ram the Main Media files are shown as VRO files. Copy the VRO fie to your Hard drive, and rename to MPEG., then author or edit with the appropiate software..

It sounds like I either need to have a DVD recorder with a hard drive, or I need to get a dvd burner that can read the ram disc. Right now I have neither.

I didn't have to use dvd-ram discs, however, being new to the game I didn't realize I would have this problem. Ram discs were all I had and I needed to record a braodcast on short notice.

Some DVD and combo drives are able to read DVD-RAM media. I have a Nutech SBW-242U that I use for this purpose. Latest Lite-on burners handle DVD-RAM also.

    Buying A DVD-RAM Capable DVD-ROM Drive
If you already have a DVD burner which doesn't support DVD-RAM you may well wish not to change it and instead opt for a new DVD-ROM drive. This will cost in the region of £20 as opposed £70 or more for a new burner. Generally RAM support can be found in most, but not all, Panasonic, LG, Toshiba and Samsung drives – however always check before you part with any money! Note Pioneer DVD-ROMs do not currently support DVD-RAM.

Some DVD-ROMs that support DVD-RAM are:
    - LG GDR-8163B
    - LG GDR-8083N (Laptop Drive)
    - Panasonic SR-8589-B (or the earlier SR-8588-B)
    - Samsung/Toshiba SD-M1912
    - Toshiba SD-M1712 (or the earlier SD-M1612/M1711)
    - Toshiba SD-C2512 (Laptop Drive)

  6. DVD-RAM requires a DVD-RAM driver if you want to read it in your PC...

I still not sure what you are trying to do.
