  1. I have started to burn vhs to dvd to simplify the digitizing process. This seems to be easier than trying to change all of the settings on my pc and deal with the AV sync problems when capturing. However, I am having trouble converting from my personal footage dvd to files that can be edited in Studio or Premiere.

I have decrypted the dvd into vob files, but when I demultiplex the files, then the audio is gone. Am I supposed to recombine the split tracks or did I do something wrong? So many settings with so many programs.

My ultimate goal is to convert my old vhs footage into entertaining dvds that have menus to find specific scenes for family members. Should be simple shouldn't it?

You should look into an MPEG editor to save you time and quality by eliminating conversions. Unless you are filtering or adding graphical overlays you really don't need to be converting your MPEG2 source to DV or AVI to do your editing only to have to convert it back to MPEG2 for DVD-Video. Womble's MPEG-VCR is a decent one with frame accurate editing ability and no audio sync issues. There are others as well. TMPGEnc has an MPEG cut & merge utility built into it also.

When you rip the VOB files with DVDDecrypter, use it in IFO mode. Set your file size breaks to "none" and enable stream processing. Select the audio track(s) you want to rip along with the video. If you have chapter points in your DVD source video you can have DVDDecrypter extract them in any number of different formats depending on which authoring application you will be using them with.
