i followed the guide on how to convert PAL to NTSC, but i'm having a problem with one of the steps. It says to select NTSC resolution (720x480) but make sure the framerate is at 25fps. well, the option in the TMPGEnc settings has the framerate option greyed out, so i cant change it to 25fps.

how do i make it so i can change the framerate in TMPGEnc? do i have to use an older version of the program or something?

You have to use the "unlock" (unlock.mcf in the extras folder) template in TMPGEnc so you can set the options as you want to.

You don't use TMPGEnc to change the frame rate (fps) you leave it at 25.00fps and just change the resolution from 720X576 to 720X480, then use DGPulldown to change the flags in the video from 25.00 to 29.97, which does not actually change the FPS but tells the authoring program/dvd player it is 29.97.

You are using one of the templates so it locks certain settings. Go back to the main screen and either start a new project (file new project) and input all settings manually, or you can unlock your current template by hitting load at the bottom right and selecting the unlock template. All settings will then be customizable.

Actually TMPGEnc will convert the frame rate, but then the audio will be out of sync... that's why you use DGPulldown to change the flags in the video instead of actually changing the frame rate.

i dont really care since i just want the job done, but how does TMPGEnc change the framerate? dont you leave it at 25fps? or do you mean TMPGEnc CAN change the framerate? (that i know) but if you do this, you will have jerky playback right? and this is why you use DGPulldown?

TMPGEnc can change the framerate by choosing which framerate you want...
    Everything else...
    Correct!!!
    Which is what i stated

You just use TMPGEnc to change the resolution & from pal to ntsc, ect. deinterlacing if you need to, and use DGPulldown to change the flags in the video file from 25.00fps to 29.97fps, which does not ACTUALLY change the frame rate but changes the flags in the video, which i stated in my previous post, which will keep the audio in perfect sync seeing as you did not actually change the FPS of the video, just merely changed the resolution & to NTSC.
