I've got a Plextor PX-716UF external Burner.. It'll read, but won't write now..I've flashed it to the latest firmaware, but still no go.. I use Taiyo Yuden Discs all the time, nothing else..I'm thinking it needs a good lense cleaning.. Anyone know or can provide a place to download a technical manual on how to dissasemble this thing so I can give it a try at giving it a really good cleaning?...TIA

When did you purchase the drive, try a cd/dvd lense cleaner and see if that works. if its still under warranty, try getting a replacement/repair.

I have a Plextor 712-a ... documentation on this drive says never, ever use a cd/dvd lense cleaner ... it'll damage the drive. So I'd be very careful there.

Got the Drive about a 12-18 months ago....The documentation from the Plextor site (Pdf. file) says to use a can of pressurized air and to give it a blast... It also says the same thing about using a CD/DVD cleaning disk.. not to use it.. I'm just looking for a manual or some instructions on how to take it apart and do a hands on physical cleaning to it.. web site documentation says to use the canned air, if that doesn't do it, send it back for repair..I want to see if I can just disassemble it and gently clean it on the inside before I have to send it back..It's out of warrenty so I'm not too concerned about having to pay for repairing it if it actually needs to be repaired.. But If I can clean it if it needs it, that'll save me about a month of sending it to be cleaned, then waiting for it to come back..
