  1. Ok, I have a NEC nd-3520-a drive with firmware 1.ug. I've tried burning discs with nero and dvd decryptor and no matter what I do my scans look like doo doo.

The media that I'm using now I once used to have great luck with. I am using Linkyo (ty tgy02 knock off's) from supermediastore and prodiscf01's. My burning speed was 4X for nero and 6X for dvd decryptor.

My question is are my poor scans related to media, the drive, or the devil?

    Thank you for your help

Here is the scan for linkyo ty02's with nero at 4X:

Scanning is as much drive dependent as it is media dependent. Maybe even more. In fact, it's not uncommon to get a "good scan" on a coaster. So for that, PIE/PIF tests have limited value.

Change your scan speed to 4x and rescan the dvd's. You were scanning at maximum speed. That is not a fair test at all. Plus, the 3520 or other nec's, are not the best scanners. You should see quite an improvement by scanning at the slower speed.
