  1. I have two machines. On my faster one, none of the capture programs will work without stopping after a few minutes. (8mm camcorder to computer). So I tried my slightly slower machine. I turn off everything I can think of and disconnect from the web. On this machine I get a complete caputure, but it jerks and stops along the way just as the previews show. I turned off the preview in one program and it made no difference. I have used Windows Movie Maker, Roxio, Nero and on of the major Movie Caputure programs. Thank you.

  3. I am using a Syba ALI combo card (Firewire and usb2). I wondered if this could be the issue. Someone suggested not likely. Both machines have the same card.

Are you using the Firewire to capture, or the USB?

Also, is this a Digital8 camcorder? Is this a DV transfer?

    Also describe the two computers.

  6. It's a digital 8, however the tape may be just 8.

Bother are AMD 1600 or close to it. The smaller one has 512mb and the bigger one has 1gig.

They both have 128mb of nvidia video memory on a card.

Normal 8 loads the computer the same as DV. Not a problem.
AMD 1600 somewhat adequate. Memory is adequate.

    Add more detail.

  8. I have plenty of space. double 160gb drives.
Much free space. I typically select E:\temp for buffer.

I use fixed virtual memory of about 1800 to 2000mb on D:\

  9. On the slower machine, the one that recorded but stopped and jerked, I have a 40gig on the back (F:\), but there is still plenty of room. I am suspicious of the condidtion of this drive. It occasionally makes a little squeal.

  14. You have eliminated most everything but the source and the capture device. What's the source you are capturing?

  15. Okay, let's start over. I eliminated most of the brain damage from the last 4 years. I now own a stand-alone recorder. I recorded from my 8mm camera. It made a good recording onto RW. Now I'm going to edit it in Video Studio 8. The problem is that VS8 doesn't understand AC3. So I guess I need a plugin. I'm now trying to figure out how to put a pluging for this purpose in VS8. I don't see a plugin folder other than individual visual arts stuff. I wonder if I can just download a free AC3 fliter and get it to work in VS8.

ULead used to sell the AC-3 plug-in for $29 but it is now standard in VS9. Better to upgrade for the other features as well.
