Which drive is better quality wise?
I had a BenQ 1620 that can't recognize media anymore and when it writes it fails and the bottom of the disk has like missing burn marks on it.
Or are there any other that are under 60 bucks that is better then these?
Thanks in advance.

I'd try cleaning the laser lens, you have nothing to lose. And have you tried different media?
For burners, I like the Pioneer 110, but I have a Benq 1640, a Pioneer 106 and a Sony DW-Q28A. None of them have given me any problems. -
I tried opening it up and cleaning the lens with alcohol, i also reflashed firmware. They both give problems still. I've been using this media for a long time so im sure it works but i might try some tdk dvd-r disk.

If it still does it with a different disc, may be something like the DVD lens slide sticking or a failing laser. Probably time to replace it, though.
Even good brands of burners have problems or defects occasionally. -
Still not working with different brand of disk. I have burned over 300-500 disk with this drive, so that could be why its failing.

I'd go with the Nec 3550 because it operates cool and quiet. All things considered they are both great drives though.
