Thanks for all of your help on the forums in the past it is much appreciated. Encountered a new problem tonight. I copied over a video file from tivo and ran it through the demultiplex and multiplex filters from moonlight to take off the password encryption. I get a working file that runs just fine in windows. I try dragging it into premiere to work on it but it just freezes up. My next step is to drop it into tmpgenc plus where I try running through as a new mpeg making sure that it is set up as 720x480 and it spits out a file that still won't work. I then try pulling out the video and audio seperately and it still stalls out on the "importing" of the video file and says the audio file is incompatible. Any other tricks out there that I could try? Do I need to apply another filter in removing the encryption? Is it a wrong setting in tmpgenc? Should I try a different program? Should I convert it to an avi file? Too many? ?
Thanks
Jeff

Premiere doesn't like editing mpeg footage. Try using an mpeg editor such as womble VCR or cuttermaran instead. Or convert to DV.

I did try womble.
Finally last night I dropped it into virtualdub-mpeg2 and made it into an avi.
It seemed to work possibly a little audio/video sync problem but not very noticable. Am I losing quality or anything else by doing it this way? -
Probably. Any time you reencode you risk reducing quality. If the bitrate is high enough you may not notice it the first time, but subsequent re-encoding will compound problems and degrade the image. Keep the re-encodes to aminimum, and use a lossless codec such as huffyuv if you can (eats more disk space, but doesn't hurt the image)
