    I hope I have the right forum for this question.

    I see where some of the broadcast networks have agree to sell some of their programing for downloading to video iPods, or, to those with iTunes accounts. They say you aren't supposed to be able to convert/transfer programs you have legally bought to recordable media.
    But I was wondering, is there a tool available that will allow you to do so?

    thanks for the info. I don't own any type of iPod, nor, do I subscribe to iTunes, but I was curious if there was a way.

    As far as I know none of the apple de-drm apps support video yet. Once the DRM is removed you have an mp4 file which despite the incorrectly used m4v extension can be converted the same as any other mp4 file.

    Celtic;

    Let me try to decode what you are saying. Despite reboots posting that Videora can take Apple iPod video files, convert, and, tranfer to recordable media. You are saying that there is no comparable program like anydvd for Apple iPod video files, yet. But when there is, after the "copyguard" feature is deactivated, it is just an mislabeled mp4 file, which can be handled like anyother mp4 file. Am I correct?

    I am saying that it may well be able to convert mp4 files including those inteded for iPods, in fact it definatly should since it is ffmpeg based. But if the files are DRM'ed as they would be if they came from iTunes, then it wouldn't convert them until the drm is removed which I don't think can be done currently.

    Other than DRM an ipod m4v is just an mp4 file, just as an apple m4a is just an mp4. Apple just made up new extensions or in the case of m4v, incorrectly reused an old one.

    Thank you , Celtic. Basically we are saying the same thing. You are saying that once the Digital Rights Management protection is deactivated, (DRM is another type of "copyguarding" to me, these files can be handled like anyothr mp4 file, that the extension Apple created for these files is just a missuse of an old extension. But you don't believe that there is currently a program to deactivate the DRM in the video iPod files.

    That is correct.
    I could be wrong about no De-DRM apps supporting video though. I believe that the technology used is the same as for audio only files so it shouldn't be that hard (in theory) to update the current apps. So perhaps it has already been done?
