The VBR mp3 may cause you trouble, so I'd load the AVI in GoldWave, save wav audio. Then encode AVI video only to m2v, 1/2 D1 resolution @ ~3000 kbps. Encode wav to AC3 with ffmpeggui. Author with TDA.

ffmpeg can handle the avi directly. No need to decode or demux first.

Also, your DivX avi according to the above info is in fact XviD. So make sure that you have XviD installed. DivX can decode it via dshow, but not VfW. Just about everything that you download will be encoded using XviD, not DivX.

  4. oops, ya i meant xvid sorry

  5. i should encode the mp3 audio to ac3 not mp2?

Right - you don't even have to demux - Forgot about that!
AC3 is more compatible than MP2 as DVD audio (and sounds cooler - mp2 seems so dated, don't you think? )
If you want MP2 audio, use AVI as viodeo source, wav as audio source when encoding in TMPGEnc to mpeg2

Got the latest XviD codec installed?
Also this might help. I'd struggle a little more with TMPGEnc before resorting to downgrading to some oneclickwonder app...
