PC Inspector has saved numerous people from the headaches caused by a mistaken format of a drive that shouldn't have been. It doesn't work all the time but in my experience with it it does recover lost files due to mistaken formatting.

    File Scavenger kicks ass!
It's the only one (I tried 8 different programs!) that could get 80+ Gigs of data off of a hard drive that XP suddenly said wasn't a valid formatted volume.

I'll second this!!! And while there's a lot of recovery software out there and a lot of it is very good, File Scavenger has saved so many computer hard drives for us that we've made back the purchase price ($45) many, many, many times.

And we've tried a lot -- for a "quick format" you should be able to get back data using pretty much any recovery tool, you just need to rebuild the MBR. So good luck to ya. But we've had a couple cases where a hard drive was giving SMART errors, sometimes would be recognized by the system, sometimes not, and File Scavenger got back not only the data we hoped was there, but "deleted" files that had been dumped over a year ago!

The more recent the files and the less time you fiddle with the disk before you recover it, the better your chances for a complete (or close enough) recovery, so whatever you end up using, don't do anything to that hard drive until you're ready to recover!!!

You have to create an acount. I've used this for fully fomatted drives and gotten every piece of data back.

guys thank u heaps for the replies...u've been really helpful.

I'm gonna try them one by one..lets hope it works.

PS: scavenger software. i've tried it before. says install demo version. when i installed and started doing the process..it took around 4 hours (300gb disk) to retrieve files. after all that...i hit "recover", and there u go..it tells me i have to buy. so to me, this is terrible marketing, coz they wasted my time..basically i will never buy it because they lied.

    thanks again peeps

    hi again..

    okayyy where do i start.

the pc inspector makes u choose which format of files u want to restore.and thats pretty ridiculous, as i would need to do this for every extension i need.

in addition to the fact that those do not include neither AI,PSD,MPEG which r pretty much my deleted files. ( illustrator, photoshop..etc)

Notice: I ran a "jpeg" restoration for the 300gb drive, and so far it finished 5% after 20 hours!!!!!. that's ridiculous.

    Please any other options?

PS: Sircooks, is that the name of the software? (runtime getdata back)?? I hope its a freeware, if possible include a link to where i can install.

    thanks all

well, scavenger does work, i've used it once before, on a formatted drive (similar case as yours, smaller drive). But I knew beforehand that the trial won't do, so I was prepared (anyway the company paid for it), however guy on irc who helped me in that case, he told me he was pissed exactly like you are; he 'punished' the scavenger coders by getting a cracked version or something and not paying a penny for it, heh... not that I support this kind of behaviour, but sure you should at least send them some angry email...
