    Hi ALL,

When decrypting some defective DVDs, with DVD Decrypter, it asks if I want to ignore the errors. My doubt is: does this sequence of trials to read/ignore cause any harm to the DVD recorder?

    Thanks in advance!
    Best regards,
    Joelson.

Constantly reading through errors will put some strain on your DVD drive. Will it burn it out after a few tries ? NO. Will it shorten the life by a year or so ? Maybe. But when a new model comes out every 7.576 minutes, speeds increasing with every 10 th model change, and the price constantly dropping - does it really matter ?

Short answer is yes, but inconsequentially.

Specifically, it is like reading many dvds instead of one, because of the retrys. Would it dissuade me? No.

  4. Just be aware that repeated CRC read errors can cause WinXP to drop that IDE channel from DMA to PIO. If your drive suddenly seems much slower be sure to check this. This is usually the reason for a DVD drive to drop to PIO for "no reason".

No actual harm comes from this and you can easily switch back to DMA.

Skipping errors can result in the final burnt disc to pause or lock up during playback. Allowing it to continually try and read through the error can result in damage to your laser, laser lens, or other mechanical problems down the road due to excessive heat. My suggestion is that if you plan to do a lot of disc reading buy a burner or rom specifically for reading and saving your best quality writer for burning only. The prices of optical drives make this easily affordable.
