Here's the thing,
I have the PAL VCD which I like to edit/cut and then I burn it with Nero (PAL option) but, when I play it with a vcd player the movie often hang about half second then normal again, it keeps happening all the time.
I've try to convert it to NTSC VCD but the audio won't synchronize with the video.
Please help me on this, I'm desperately need your HELP!

KokChien,
I don't understand what you mean by "hang". Well, you need to find out if your vcd player supports NTSC or PAL or both. If PAL, you need to encode your file as PAL and burn as PAL. Same for NTSC. You could use TMPGEnc. to encode you file. Well, as for the audio sync problem, I have a suggestion which you could try. Works for me all the time, encode the video only and then with the encoded video, mux it with your original audio. Good Luck. Jordan -
Thx for the reply Jordan
Well, the word 'hang' means freeze/ video break up (for me)
I'm sorry but maybe you don't understand what I'm saying 'cause my english sucks,
Let me explain it again,
I have the original/source disc (PAL system) which works perfect on my VCD player. I cut it with VCD cutter to MPG file (still PAL system). And then I burn the MPG file with Nero (PAL option selected).
Results: I got video break up/freeze during the movie and it keeps happening every few minutes (maybe 1 or 2 minutes)
I'd tried to re-encode the file to NTSC system like you said (with separates files) but I use Panasonic MPEG Encoder and the results is still losing sync, at first the audio wasn't losing sync but after about 20 minutes the audio moving faster than the video (it seems like the audio shrunk)
Question: Can you tell me where did I do wrong?
Is it the software I used or what...?
Thx for the help anyway Jordan

KokChien,
That's alright, my english sucks too.
Ok, correct me if I misinterpreted. You have a vcd disc (original) and plays fine with your VCD player. Then you cut and encoded the file with Panasonic MPEG and got problem. Well, first of all, how did you got the file from the vcd disc (original) into your computer. Did you vcd-ripped it? Or did you just copy it. I haven't done anything that's vcd original. All my creations are DVD capture or rip. However, I believe it would be the same, you must rip the vcd.
Then you use Panasonic to encode, honestly, I tried a few encoders but still suggest TMPGEnc. Its easy, reliable and free. Although it sometimes have problems with the audio side but you can use Toolame to work together with it. I don't quite sure about Panasonic but you can give it a try. However I may not be able to help you because I'm not familiar with it. Plus, you're using two programs to do two job (cut and encode), with TMPGEnc. it can do both job, therefore, you wouldn't have any conflict between programs.
Finally, you'll burn with Nero.
Well, I can only think of two possibility for now. One is your rip. If you did rip it. Then it will narrow it down to your encoding. You might need to change some setting to make it work. Suggestion: If your VCD player supports CD-RW, use CD-RW for testing. Jordan.
PS BTW, did you try playing your file on your computer? How did it look? -
thx Jordan,
I think you're right, at first i ripped the vcd with vcd cutter, after i try TMPEG Encoder, it works good. And for the audio sync problem, its gone too. I think Panasonic have a huge problem with the audio sync.
But I still can't burn the PAL VCD, I guess I have to re-encode it to NTSC VCD even the quality decrease a little bit
Thx for your assistance Jordan. -
KokChien,
Great to hear that it worked for you. What do you mean you can't burn. Can you simiply your problem? Don't encode as NTSC and burn as PAL. There is a possibility that it will work but that's not the right way. Gotta remember, you want your disc to be able to play on most players. ie. If your current player is broken, would your new player able to play your creation with such burning? Post your problem here and I'll try to help you out. There's a lot of pros (not me) out there that can help you to figure your problem. Jordan -
Jordan,
Sorry, I don't mean I can't burn it, in fact I could but the movie is got many video break up/freeze during the movie.
After doing some experiments (with your help) I'd solved that problem too.
If your source VCD is PAL then you gotta re-encode it (the DAT file) to PAL VCD (MPG file) using TMPG Encoder, because encode it to NTSC VCD will cause the scene movements isn't smooth (sorry, dunno the word, cant you tell me?) anymore compare to the source file. You can see the difference on a camera movements during the movie.
If you don't wish to edit the scene, you can simply burn the dat file to VCD. If you wish to edit/cut the movie just use TMPG encoder, don't use VCD Cutter because it gives you some video break up/freeze during the movie if you play it on VCD Player (works good on PC).
As for encoding to NTSC VCD I still recommends you to use TMPG Encoder 'cause Panasonic will give you a great deal of audio/video dis-synchronize (even with separate files) and it works slower too. I didn't experienced such problem with TMPGEnc even with one file for audio/video.
And the picture quality isn't really matter for me because my source file is original VCD which is very good. Besides the quality matter are very subjective as you can read from the 'TMPGEnc Vs. Panasonic Topic' (the discussions were really hot man)
Well that's all I guess, if anyone doesn't agree with me please post up your reply.
Thanks for your help Jordan, I couldn't make it without your help bro.
Good luck
Kok Chien
