    Is there a free program to convert DVD direct to .avi??? I thought I needed it in mpg but it needs to be in .avi.

    I like AutoGK, but there's also fairuse wizard, and more here:

    Thanks guys. I just noticed there was a specific form for dvd to avi. Sorry. feel free to move as necessary.
    I like the gui of autoGK. Having not tried any, why do you like that one??
    I've tried ripnburn and besides having to remove spyware, it didn't work.

    Just MHO, but fast, easy to use, and with the rights settings produces good quality results.
