Ricoh media isn't actually made in Japan; the R&D for the discs is done by Ricoh in Japan but the actual disc manufacturing is done in Taiwan by Ritek. That said, the 4x Ricoh media is far superior to the 8x or 12x discs.

  4. the RICOHJPN code is as good as the ritek tiawan brand-thus meaning, pretty shitty.
ritek went down the pan a long time ago,and now the only good media is still TY.

Ricohjpn isn't as bad as Ritek; Ritek may be doing the manufacturing, but the discs are made with Ricoh materials and Ricoh oversees the quality control for them. It's the same as Mitsubishi discs being made in Taiwan by CMC or Prodisc, or in India by MBIL, rather than at Mitsubishi's own plant in Singapore. I've had MCC 8x DVD+R discs that burned better than YUDEN000T02 so you can't say TY is the *only* good media, it's just the most consistently good.

I have used several memorex RICOCJPN discs and they are fine. I mainly use Verbatim(MCC) and TY(YUDEN000), but the Ricohjpn discs when scanned have no read errors, and play just fine on my toshiba/samsung/Sony/PS2 dvd players
