Hi folks,
I'm experiencing a problem that is about to drive me nuts.
I've been trying for 2 weeks now to convert an MPG-file to a DVD-compatible MPEG-2 file.
Here's what I have for input:
a 1.2 GB MPG-file (88 mins.) made from a VHS-tape, resolution 640 x 480.
Here's what I want for output:
a file that I can use in a DVD Authoring program like EncoreDVD or whatever.
The audio can be multiplexed or as a separate file, I don't care.
I have tried many, many encoders (including TMPGEnc 3.0 and ProCoder 2), but all of them make the audio asynchronous to the video!!
The input file is perfectly synchronous, the output files are never.
How is that possible?
Any help would be very much appreciated. I want to watch the movie on my big TV screen, lying on a sofa, not on my little PC monitor, sitting on a small chair. Understandable, isn't it?
Thanks!!

What framerate and format is the file? Is it NTSC or PAL? Is it 23.976, 25, or 29.97 fps? What format is the audio in? All these are important, and if one isn't set properly it can cause problems in your conversion.

Small glitches in the video or audio stream can also throw out sync. These may not be obvious suring playback, as error correction can hide small flaws, Encoding, on the otherhand, looks at every bit of data, so these glitches can bite you on the arse. You can load the avi into virtualdub and scan for errors, just to be sure.

Troll, here's some info that Adobe Premiere displays about the file:
Type: MPEG Movie
Pixel Depth: 0
Frame Rate: 25.00
Source Audio Format: 44100 Hz - 16 bit - stereo
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
25 fps, so it must be PAL, huh?
Guns, I can't open the file with VirtualDub:
---------------------------
VirtualDub Error
---------------------------
MPEG Import Filter: invalid pack at position 3: marker bit not set; possibly MPEG-2 stream
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
Thanks,
Hobbes
