I will be buying a HDD DVD recorder soon, and I haven't seen anything yet about using an IR Blaster to change channels on a Sat receiver. I don't care about TVGOS or anything like that, in fact I want to turn the TV Guide off on my unit if at all possible. I just want to be able to set the Channel for timed recordings. I have Direct TV as my Sat provider and currently here in the states there is not even a HDD TIVO unit offered for them if I wanted one. Since IR blasters can control different cable boxes there should be a way to program them to drive different receivers. Any body have any starting point to get this done? I figured since I have not tied myself to a recorder yet I can still be somewhat flexible using the possiblility of controlling my SAT receiver as part of deciding which one to buy.

You can, also, program your Sat receiver to turn on at specific time and channel. My recorder doesn't have IR blaster neither my cable decoder has programation feature, then I use my PC to send IR codes directly to my cable decoder. I use Winlirc.

I'm at about the same stage. IF I cannot get my DVD recorder to change channels on my Sat receiver. I'll have to program my old SVHS that does along with my DVD recorder.
