I have a Dell Latitude C640 with ATI Mobility M7 with 32 RAM on it. Processor is P4 1.8 and I really wish that they bumped up the notch with the video card, but oh well I won't complain too much. I like the fact that it fully works with Windows 98 SE and I can use some of my apps such as Protools, Logic Audio 3.6, and of course some older games such as power chess, etc. RAM is 512 and it looks to be ok. The chips ARE from different manufacturers and I may look into this in the future but I don't think that this is related to this issue.
CORRECTION - the video card is radeon mobility 7500.
Anyways, maybe someone has already this unit so it would be good to disccus it if some of you guys have experienced this problem.
When I am watching DVD on the laptop itself every 3 - 5 seconds there is an occasional Stutter (stop resume, but VERY SHORT). It is very noticeable on scrolling titles. Looks like a half an inch jump upwards.
HOWEVER, when notebook is attached to the external Monitor CRT A70 Viewsonic, this does not occur.
Now I do understand that CRT will always have more hertz to work with but most of the laptops do have same frequency LCD (60 Hertz), hence hertz are not the issue likely.
Heck there are flatscreen monitors also that only support 60 Hz.
Does anyone know why would this happen?

i sure wouldnt run Protools on a Dell Latitude C640
anyway - sounds as if the screen timing is off very slightly , or a defective lacd screen .. powerstrip may help with the first issue .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650)
