  1. I've ordered the ZRH-516 hdd/dvd recorder, but the fact that there is no s-video input in the back of the unit really bugs me. I've got little kids, so I really can't have a cable sticking out of the front of the unit. I'm going to test the picture quality without it, but I have a feeling I may be sending it back.

It occured to me, however, that it might be possible to rewire the unit so that the S-video input uses the connector in the back instead. The connectors are the same, so wouldn't it just be a matter of opening the box, disconnecting the front input and running a wire to the connector in the back? (I'm guessing I would also have to re-wire the front audio inputs to the back panel to keep them in the same input group.)

Does anyone think this would be doable or am I totally crazy? If the S-video connectors are attached directly to the circuit board I might not want to try it, but if there is any kind of wiring between the connectors and the board, the job might not be too hard. (Yes, I realize that opening the unit would completely void my warranty and I would lose the use of my front inputs, but I wasn't planning on using them anyway.)

So, opinions? Maybe someone who has already opened their ZRH-516 to put in a bigger drive could shed some light on the guts of the unit.

Hardly any electronic device produced on an assembly line anymore uses discrete wiring if they can avoid it, so I have my doubts. Likely the socket is part of the board.

If there's a hack for a hard drive change, maybe a site has some internal photos of the unit.
