  1. Hi all,

What DVD Player have you used successfully to played the DVD-RW discs that you burned using your Pioneer A03?

I just got the Pioneer DV-444 DVD player. It played pretty much everything I thow at it EXCEPT for the DVD-RW. I know the DVD player compatibility list shows that most Pioneer player is DVD-RW compatible (should be since they developed this technology).

Here is a list of formats that I have tried successfully:
    1) WinOnCD3.8PE PhotoAlbum
    2) VCD
    3) XVCD
    4) SVCD - up to 2500Kbps
    5) SXVCD - up to 2500Kbps
    6) DVD-R - from same Pioneer A03 burner.

Just to make sure that the disc was burned successfully, I played the DVD-RW disc on the A03 using PowerDVD, and it played fine.

I also took the same DVD-RW disc to TheGoodGuys and inserted into all of their DVD players on the shelf and nothing work (including a couple other available Pioneer DVD players).

I burned the DVD-RW with the same Mpeg2 files using the same Authoring process as I did with the DVD-R disc that worked.

To sum up my process for both the good DVD-R and BAD DVD-RW:
    Capture: VHS - RT200 - 4Mbps DVD compatible Mpeg2
    Authoring/Burning: DVDit 2.3 PE

    Anyone...?

    Cheers,

    TN

  2. Which brand of DVD-RW discs you use? Sometimes, people have problems with playing DVD-RWs other than Pioneer. I have a Sony DVD player and flawlessly play Pioneer DVD-RWs on it. Cheers.

  3. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll cough up a little extra to buy the Pioneer Brand.

The DVD-R I bought was from Verbatim which works fine. I have some no name brand on for my DVD-RW so that could be a reason.

    Thanks,

While we're on the subject with the dvr-a03. Could any of you that bought the retail package tell me what came with it? I've search a number of places and can't find a good list. I'm particularly interested in the software and whether it comes with DVD-R and DVD-RW disks.

  7. When I bought mine from http://www.visiblelight.com, it said that it was the retail version, but when I got it there was no DVD-R disc with it. They sold me the OEM version. I was kinda steam at the time because I had a DVD burner but with no DVD-R to use it with. Good thing it does CDR well and I used the first few week to play around trying to see if I could do everything on it as I could on CDR burner. I didn't bother about the return and kept it. To their credit, they did sent out the DVD-R disc a few weeks later with a letter saying that since I paid the retail price, the DVD-R disc was mine.

So my guess is that if you buy it retail, you should get a blank DVD-R disc with your purchase.

I got my retail DVR-A03 (Manufactured Nov 2001) today so I'll tell everyone what comes with it:

    - One Pioneer branded DVD-R
    - One software installation disc, which includes Veritas PrimoDVD2.0, Sonic Solutions MyDVD 2.3, and CyberLink Power DVD 3.0 (Looks like Pioneer needs to license newer versions. The DVD+RW drives generally come with MyDVD 3.0).
    - Operating instructions
    - Software installation guide
    - 4 mounting screws (Yes I'm getting anal with my list).
    - Audio connection cable (analog - although the drive does have digital sound out).
    - 3 jumpers (rubberized no less).
    - Manual disc ejection tool.
    - Can't forget the warrantee card

  10. Hi,

Just want to let you all know that my original problem of playing DVD-RW was caused by me not using a good DVD-RW disc. The disc I originally purchase was a no brand name type. It would only play on my PC, but not in my new Pioneer DV444 or any other players I tried at TheGoodGuys.
After getting a few Pioneer Brand DVD-RW, my problem is solved.

Big thanks to those who suggested Pioneer DVD-RW discs. Won't waste money on noname disc anymore.

    Thanks again, and happy hollidays.
