I've searched the forums and the Web, but can't find any guidance on this ...

I often transcode MPEG-2 video (more precisely, DVD-ripped VOBs) to DV so that I can edit it in iMovie to produce collections of clips for classroom instruction. Is there any advantage to using two-pass encoding when going to DV? I've looked at the results side by side and can't tell much difference, but maybe my eyes are just bad.

Thanks in advance, and sorry if I've missed something obvious.

I have been having a hard time using ffmpegx. i have captured gameplay from an xbox as an mpeg2 file. i want to be able to edit this footage in imovie but when i try to convert it the best i get is only sound. what am i doing wrong?

  3. There's no advantage to two pass DV encoding as DV is always fixed at 25000kbs
