Back a few years ago when I bought my first computer I had a WD that lasted me for 2 years. I am now thinking of adding another hard drive, since I think this one is going now. I always find good deals on the new WD's at Best Buy, etc, after the rebate prices. I would like a Seagate but rarley find deals on these. I would like somewhere between a 120-200gb hard drive. Also I have one IDE on my mobo for a hard drive, but I have 4 SATA's. What do you recommend, IDE or SATA? WD or stick with Seagate?

My other questions is what is recommended memory wise. I've heard of Corsair being good and Kingston. I desperatly need more for the type of processor I am running.

If SATA and IDE are similarly priced, go with SATA. SATA does away with jumper configurations, use smaller thinner cables and are plug and play. SATA is marginally faster than IDE, but I doubt you will notice the difference much.

As for WD or Seagate, go for onw which you can find a better deal with. I think both manufacturers now provide a 5 year warranty with their hard drives. But check first to be sure.

I will say that I kinda like Seagate a bit better. But having said that I only own a single seagate drive. Why?

Better deals and I don't regret the decision. What I'm saying I guess is WD is just fine.

Not all WD hard drives have the 5 year warranty. Some have only a year if you buy it from a retail store although if purchasing it online from Newegg.com some have only 3 year warranty. Just my 2 cents!

thanks. I usually purchase from newegg, they have some of the best deals. Better than retail stores and it beats waiting months and months for a mail in rebate. I bought a monitor from somewhere once with a mail in rebate, and I had to wait close to 3 months so to get my lousy $20

all true. unless you go with a wd raptor. then you see improved performance.

I kinda like Seagate a bit better.

me too. i have wd, maxtor and seagate and have had no trouble with any. still i have more confidence in the seagate.

i dislike rebates also. that said, staples has maxtor 200 gig for 30 bucks. i can swallow a rebate for that.

    my new favorite is patriot.
