I don't know what you think you have seen but the latest (and last) version of DVDShrink is 3.2.0.15.

The author of Shrink went to work for Ahead - Nero Recode is basically Shrink in new clothes. If you want to continue with an updated Shrink, Recode is it.

Personally, I'm happy with Shrink the way it is. I only really use it to reauthor and strip down backups, or to dotranscoding where the % change is small. In these things it excels. For anything bigger, there id DVD Rebuilder.

  4. So would you say the quality of Recode is up to par with Shrink, or even better perhaps?

I haven't used recode in quite a while. The last time I saw recode it did not have the AEC facilities that Shrink has, so at that stage at least, Shrink produced much better output. I would assume recode has caught up by now, but transcoding is transcoding, and will never be as good as a full encode for quality. That's why I'm happy to transcode for a small change, but always encode for a larger one.

The other consideration is; even if the current version of Recode is slightly better than Shrink (you will have to test this to find out), is the difference enough to warrant paying for it ? Shrink is free, Recode is not. Is the quality difference worth the price ?
