When a DVD recorder drops frames in order to get the video to fit the time allowed on a disc wouldn't that have an affect on the audio track?

If it did that, probably...but why would it drop frames to make a video fit on a disk?

I'm not sure about that. Maybe not a standalone recorder but I have seen it done on PC applications because they show the count of frames being included and the count of dropped frames.

If an application drops frames, that's an error. Same with a DVR. Most applications just re-encode or transcode to fit the video into a alloted space.

If a application does drop frames during a conversion you will most likely have sync errors with the audio.
