I have the RF out from Satellite rcvr into RF in of liteon 5005 and the RF out of Liteon 5005 into TV RF In. I have the composite inputs hooked between the tv and dvd recorder(5005) too. I have been noticing a hum in audio , while doing tv recordings(looks like many folks in this forum have this complaint). How can I get rid of this? If I hook up the RF out from sat recvr to TV directly, how do I use the 5005 for recording tv shows? I also have a old vcr(which is temporarily disconnected) with the RF tuner that I can use.
Also , with all this equipment, can I watch another channel on my TV , while recording an other channel? I don't think my TV is dual tuner though.

  2. Bypass the RF on the LiteOn since its tuner is the source of the hum. Instead hook up s-video (or composite) and the line-level audio from the cable box to the respective inputs on the LiteOn.

  3. Sorry, I should have said satellite receiver rather than cable box.

what you suggest above will get rid of audio hum in liteon 5005 tuner. what will be the purpose of a vcr tuner(sat->vcr->tv rf tuner??) as some people suggest, except that I can still watch vcr tapes.
Will this connnection help me watch one sat. channel, while recording another?

Most LiteOn/ ILO users use a VCR w/tuner plugged into the line inputs on the back of the recorder to bypass the use of the built in tuner. The VCR at this point is just used as the ILO's tuner. The drawback to this is that you can't use timer recording since you are not using the timer controlled tuner in the recorder and, if you get premium channels with the SAT (HBO,etc.), you will not be able to record those.

Your TV may not have a dual tuner but it should have separate line inputs other than the COAX/cable input.

Since you are using a SAT receiver, I assume there is no way to get the channels without using the SAT tuner, i.e. hooking the cable straight to the TV like you could with cable service. With this in mind, you will not be able to split the raw signal to 2 separate tuners, unless I'm missing something. The best way to hook up your system to get rid of the hum is like this:

    COAX from dish to SAT.
COAX from SAT RF OUT to ANT/COAX RF IN on TV
Line out (yellow/red/white) from SAT Line Out to line input on recorder. Use the back inputs (AV2) since the front inputs can also cause some hum.
Line out on recorder to aux line input on TV.

This layout will allow you to watch your SAT/TV without the recorder on through the regular TV RF input. It will also allow you to record what you are watching through the line input on the recorder (i.e. no hum). If you want to watch a DVD or see the recorders menus and settings, change the TV input to line/aux in. You will now see all recorder functions and you will still see the SAT signal if the recorders input selector is set to AV2. The advantage to this setup is that you don't have to have the recorder on to just watch TV and, when recording, there is no noise.

If your SAT system is capable of splitting the raw signal to another tuner besides the SAT tuner, let me know and I will post a setup that will allow recording one channel while watching another.

    Good luck.

I have the Dish network 500 satellite system with a 301 receiver, so don't know if it can split the input.

Also, will I be able to do timed recording using the AV2 inputs(when bypassing the built-in RF tuner)

I maybe coming in late here but you can to timed recordings via the composite in ports. Simply set your tuner (in my case VCR) to the channel you want to record. You are restricted to only one channel till you change the channel on the VCR but you can record with this method. When setting the timer simply select AV1 or AV2. I use AV2 (rear) as AV1 picks up some hum from the LCD display.

    Hope this helps
