  1. Is ati MMC 7.5 compatible with Windows 98se?

  2. Well, I am running win98se with an ati all-in-wonder pro 128, and MMC 7.5 and it is working. Although, every now and then I get some weird errors, but overall it does seem to work!

I'm also running 7.5 under Win98SE without any problems, though it wouldn't work until I updated my Radeon drivers to 7189. I haven't seen much of a performance (i.e. CPU utilization) improvement over previous versions. However, and this is subtle, MPEGs processed for VCD compliancy (demux/mux using TMPGEnc) seem to have better audio sync than previous MMC releases.

For me, the improvments in 7.5 were not worth the bugs, caused stability problems when using certain functions. Went back to 7.2 and not one problem since.

  5. It could be a hit or miss proposition.

I have it working with no problems on 2 out of 3 boxes. I'm still fooling around with the third but it should be fine as well.

I run it on 98se with AIW Pro 128's. It also seems to work fine on a fourth box with a Rage 128 but I really haven't tested that one too much. The reason I say hit or miss is because it has not been officially released for these setups (it may never be officially released). For this reason I guess I consider myself lucky.

I prefer the advantages it offers over any of the previous MMC releases.

  6. Thanks for the info I have also found the MMC 7.5 to be a bit unstable. But I do like the features although I have never used verion 7.2 just 7.1.
