I have tried several different medias and get poor results. The current media I am trying is "supposed" to be compatable with my hardware. If I burn a small video to DVD it works fine... but if I make a backup copy of a full DVD, or record to anywhere close to the capacity of the DVD I get extreemly poor quality on playback. I get no errors, just when it's played back there are spots with pixels out of place and hanging video.
Here is the information on the media and player I am using now... Do I need a new player? I thought this one was high quality. I have tried various media... please help! As far as I know this is the latest firmware for the drive.

Optocrap are the worst discs I've ever seen. If the rest of the discs you've tried are as cheap as those, that's the problem.

When I search this site under DVD Media, I find that the Optodisk001 -R (like I am using) have "Good Compatability" on most of the ratings.
I just ordered some new DVD's... hope these work better.
1736-100 Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 4.7GB, 8X, 100-Pack 2 $32.99 $65.98
Shipping: Ground: $5.52
They are rated fairly high on most reviews... Wish me luck! -
I do not have any problems with Optodisc and burn all at x4.
Also, I use only -R discs with this burner as I did have problems using +R. Even with x8 speed media I feel it's better to burn at x4.
By the way YT's is great media providing they are genuine YT's, there are many fakes floating around with the name YT's. -
try burning at 2x. a slow burn is better than no burn at all and your discs won't be wasted.

I don't even have that option... These are 1x DVD's.
