Hi.
Id appreciate any advice on the following.
Im due to be filming a tennis training DVD next month. I want to be able to sell it worldwide, but mainly the U.K. and U.S.A.
Ive searched on the forum and discovered its a pain in the butt to convert Pal to NTSC.
Id like to know what is the best way i can come out of this with both a Pal version and NTSC? Could i have two cameras on the go when filming or is there something else i could try.
Thanks very much for any comments.
Rob

I sell all over the world and only offer NTSC as it seems that people with PAL DVD players ( Newer ones ) are able to play then w/o a hitch. I don't think the opposite can be said though I can play PAL on my DVD player.

Much as it grieves me to have to say it, your best bet will be to film in inferior NTSC. The UK is in DVD Region 2 and uses PAL, Japan is also in Region 2 but uses NTSC. Therefore any Region 2 (ie European) DVD player can play back both. The same applies for any multi Region players. Most European TVs will accept an NTSC signal on the AV (SCART) inputs too.
On odd occasions, someone may complain that an NTSC DVD plays back in black and white. This only happens if the TV cannot deal with an NTSC input. DVD players will have an output format setting in the menu. Usually this gives NTSC, PAL or AUTO as options. If set to NTSC or PAL it will output this no matter what format the disc is, if set to AUTO it will output whatever format the disc is. Anyone complaining that an NTSC disc plays in black and white will need to change this setting from AUTO (which is usually the default setting) to PAL. -
Thanks for the replies.
Gives me something to think about.
Would i then need to find a company that specialises in NTSC in the U.K.?
Im guessing not only the camera would need to be NTSC format but the editing software as well.
Will have a word with the company i have lined up.
